Receive Long-Term Relief With Better Eyes Reach Out to Learn More About Your Treatment Options

Dry eye disease can be incredibly frustrating. To add to the frustration, more often than not, doctors fail to look beyond the surface of the eye. At Better Eyes, we’ll take a different approach. We'll use advanced techniques to evaluate your tear production, measure how long it takes for your tears to evaporate, and more.
There’s no need to suffer anymore. Message our Valparaiso optometry office today or call:
Claim Your Free Book!
You can play an important role in treating dry eye. Dr. Chander is excited to provide our Valpo patients with a free digital copy of "The Tearful Truth about Dry Eyes" – an educational book that can help you learn more about the condition.
Understanding Dry Eye Syndrome
The Anatomy
of Tears
Our tears are made up of a complex combination of water, oils, and more. The Meibomian glands (located in your eyelids) play an especially important role in ensuring that your tears sufficiently lubricate the eyes and don’t evaporate too quickly.
Lifestyle
Changes
While lifestyle changes like using eye drops called artificial tears, switching contact lenses, and applying warm compresses can help to a limited degree, our comprehensive eye exams will pinpoint the most effective solution for your unique needs.
Other
Options
In some cases, prescription eye drops can help, and in others, we’ll recommend Tearsavers®, a tiny punctal plug that’s placed into the tear duct to slow the drainage of tears. LLLT, however, has shown especially promising–and long-lasting–results.
Low-Level Light Therapy:
A Quick, Comfortable Solution
LLLT treats a common cause of dry eye directly at the source, by warming and unblocking the Meibomian glands and allowing them to work more effectively. In other words, by applying a specific wavelength of light to the area around the eyes, LLLT gently encourages the production of higher-quality tears.
During treatment at our Valparaiso office, Dr. Chander will use the sophisticated Equinox device to apply localized heat and light to the eye area. You’ll essentially be wearing a large, comfortable eye mask throughout each 15-minute session.
There are several benefits of LLLT, including:
- Non-invasive
- Safe
- Painless
- Quick
Keep in mind that you might require several appointments before you begin experiencing full relief from your dry eye symptoms. Once your body becomes capable of producing healthier tears, you’ll find yourself better able to tolerate contacts, using fewer eye drops, and enjoying greater comfort throughout the day.
